Beyond the excitement, this event carries a profound purpose. It's all about raising PPROM awareness in Acadiana. Our story hits close to home: In June 2020, Declan made his entrance into the world after just 26 weeks of gestation, his mother's water breaking at a mere 17 weeks. PPROM, the premature rupture of membranes, shaped our journey. Through Fantasy Fun Day, we strive to shed light on PPROM and extend a helping hand to families navigating similar challenges as we did in 2020.
Join us for an unforgettable day of fun and purpose. Your presence makes a difference!

In January 2020, Kaylyn and her husband, Travis, received the joyous news of expecting their first child. The pregnancy progressed smoothly until the onset of the COVID-19 shutdown, disrupting the regular prenatal checkups and screenings that were crucial for monitoring the baby's well-being. As challenges mounted, Kaylyn's journey took an unexpected turn at nearly 18 weeks pregnant when her water broke (pProm). Despite the adversity, the baby's heartbeat remained resilient, intensifying the desire to give their all to protect this precious life.
Their quest for hope led them to discover that there were options for Baby Declan, yet the doctors hesitated to take the necessary steps to ensure his preservation. They just didn't have the knowledge needed to offer help. Kaylyn would go on to sustain Baby Declan until reaching 26 weeks of gestation, obtaining the support needed to continue the pregnancy in Anchorage was met with reluctance. On June 12, 2020, Declan made his entrance into the world, marking the beginning of a courageous journey.
In the NICU, Kaylyn and Travis stood steadfastly by Declan's side for five challenging weeks, witnessing his strength and resilience. Just as a glimmer of hope emerged, a bacterial infection cast a shadow over their path, leading to a heart-wrenching spiral. On July 16, after a valiant fight, Declan passed away, leaving a profound impact on their lives.
Their conviction is rooted in the belief that raising awareness about this condition is vital. By empowering parents with knowledge about how to navigate similar circumstances and advocating for medical professionals to be attuned to such cases, they aim to ensure that other families receive the timely care and support they need. Reflecting on their journey, Kaylyn and Travis firmly believe that earlier intervention could have extended the pregnancy, offering Declan more time for development and growth.
In sharing their story, Kaylyn and Travis honor Declan's memory and champion a cause that could bring hope and guidance to countless families facing similar challenges. Through awareness and education, they aspire to make a difference and provide a lifeline of support to those who need it most.
